Welcome to Year 5!
During September and October, the children have been busy learning how to write a recount. We wanted to tell each other what we did over the Summer Holidays so we decided to write a letter to a friend. We looked at how a letter should be laid out, and how the style of the letter needs to change depending on who we are writing to. We finished the topic by writing an informal letter to recount the events of The Great Fire of London.
P5 have been working hard to learn to tell the time on an analogue clock. We have also been looking at language in word problems and deciding which mathematical operation wll be needed to solve it.
World Around Us
In September and October, we were introduced to King Henry VIII. We really loved learning about his life and all six of his wives. We investigated Tudor medicine and decided it was not a good idea to be ill in Tudor Times.
In November and December we began our topic 'Let the Sparks Fly!'. We began by investigating circuits and safety around electricity. We are looking forward to using a switch to send a Morse Code message to a friend.
