A Trip Back in Time!
On Tuesday 13th March we went to the Ulster Scots Centre. When we arrived we met a lady, she took us into the room. When we sat down we met a man called Matt. Matt used to teach in our school. We saw what children and adults used to wear years ago. Natalie was our model. We learned about our surnames, my surname is English. We learned some Ulster Scots words like 'craic', 'hoke and 'dander'. Matt let us try out the instruments he had been telling us about. Matt was really good at them all! We learnt a new song called 'Nae ya cannae push yer granny (check out our video!). We had a lot of fun at Ulster Scots. I would love to go back again.

Exploring the Rainforest
In P6 we have been busy learning lots of new things. Our most recent topic was the Rainforest. We have just finished writing our very own Rainforest stories. We had to use planners and storyboards to think of our opening, problem, solution and interesting ending. We used similes, adjectives and adverbs to make them more exciting! Mrs McFerran and Miss Thompson said we are little authors in the making! The Rainforest is home to a wide range of beautiful and intriguing animals. We got to look at and investigate a dart frog, a boa constrictor snake, a jaguar and a tropical turtle. We had to choose our favourite and create some camouflage art. This week we were researching more Rainforest animals, this time we got to choose one of our own and use the information to make a fact file on Pic Collage, Microsoft Word or with pens and paper.
The Vicious Vikings
Before Christmas we were learning about the Vikings. One of our favourite activities was making our own Viking long ships, we had a few weeks at home and could choose what materials we wanted to use. Some of our mums, dads and other helpers enjoyed it just as much as we did! As part of our literacy we had to write a diary entry. We had to close our eyes and imagine we were living during 800AD. The children led very different lives back then, they didn't go to school, they had to hunt for their own food and even make their own clothes. We spent some time writing about what they did during each day. The Vikings spoke in a different language and had their own alphabet, called 'Rune'. We had a go at writing our names and had to translate sentences for our partner.
