Welcome to Year 7!
This term we have been so busy writing our own diary extracts. We used our class novel, Under the Hawthorn Tree, as our inspiration. We created a class checklist to help us include all of the important features. Some of these features included: P7 punctuation, adverbs, adjectives, similes, time connectives and chatty language. WOW!! We continued to work hard at improving our spelling using our personal word walls and an app called Spellosaur.
This term we continued to develop our problem solving skills and extend our use of mathematical language when talking about our learning in this subject. We explored fractions, decimals, percentages, division and negative numbers as well as working hard on our mental maths skills! We also enjoyed playing new games with our teachers. Winners' Row was a clear favourite!
World Around Us
We really enjoyed our topic on Fair Trade. We researched the journey of different fair trade products. It was surprising to find out exactly what happened before the products even reached our supermarkets and how much money the farmers actually make!! Next term we will be learning all about the Titanic and will be taking part in a variety of Science investigations.
We continued to learn African drumming with Gavin and look forward to him returning next term. We were also lucky enough to work with Professor Fluffy and her team from Queen’s University. They taught us about what life is like as a university student and what jobs we can do when we’re older. An exciting part of this project is our visit to the university itself. I wonder what we’ll find out there!!
