Welcome to Year 7!
In Literacy this term we are responding to our class novels in a variety of ways. We are writing book reviews, diary extracts and letters to our favourite authors. We are trying hard to improve our spelling and are proud of the Personal Word Walls which we have created. We are also looking closely at punctuation, particularly speech marks and clauses.
In Numeracy this term we are enjoying using our problem solving skills and extending our use of mathematical language when talking about our learning in this subject. We have been exploring percentages, dividing and multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 as well as working hard on our mental maths skills. We have also been using different strategies including the grid method to tackle long multiplication problems.
In World Around Us we have really enjoyed our topic on Farming. We have been using our knowledge of scale drawing and engines to design and build tractors. We are looking forward to our farm visit where we can discover more and see for ourselves some of the machinery and animals which we have been learning about.
We are continuing to learn African drumming with Gavin to prepare us for our end of year show. We love working with Paul and his team from the Hammer. They are helping us with the transition to our next school and there is lots of opportunity to talk about our feelings and take on fun challenges.
We have been lucky enough to work with Professor Fluffy and her team from Queen’s University. They have been teaching us about what life is like as a university student and what jobs we can do when we’re older. An exciting part of this project is our visit to the university itself. I wonder what we’ll find out there.
Of course, this term we are all really looking forward to our class residential at Cultra where we will learn all about life in Victorian Ireland. Watch this space to find out how we get on!
