Welcome to Primary 6!
Term 2
Our new topic for this term is "Rainforests." We have been looking at maps of the world and finding out where the rainforests are.
We have started to read a new class novel called "The Explorer." It has such an exciting beginning and we have been using our predicting skills to try to work out what might happen next.
We have started lots of art activities based around animals in the rainforest. Check back soon to see some of our brilliant work.
Term 1
This term we have been learning all about Outer Space in our ‘Out of This World!’ topic. We have been able to link this topic into our Literacy, Numeracy and ICT tasks.
In Literacy we have been reading Cakes in Space. We have enjoyed predicting what will happen in each chapter. We can't wait to find out what will happen to Astra and her family on their journey to Nova Mundi as the space ship is taken over by cake monsters!
We used interesting adjectives to describe our own cake monster. We worked hard to make sure we included as much detail as possible in our descriptions and we then created our monsters using clay.
In Numeracy we have been developing our mental addition skills and moving on to using written methods. We can find lines of symmetry in shapes and have enjoyed using mirrors to work out if shapes and objects are symmetrical. We had great fun using grid references and plotting co-ordinates.
We are using Freckle Maths in class every day and we love the challenge of problem solving and seeing who can hit their weekly targets to earn the most coins!
In UICT we used Pic Collage to disguise ourselves as astronauts. We changed the background, took pictures, used the cropping tool and added text to our work.
We have also been enjoying using the chrome books to carry out our own research about famous astronauts and the International Space Station.
In Art we were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" painting and we created our own versions using pastels. We looked carefully at the lines, shapes and patterns in his work and tried to use these in our finished pieces.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
