Welcome to Primary 6!
This term we have been learning all about the VICIOUS VIKINGS! We have been able to link this topic into both our literacy and Numeracy tasks.
In literacy we have been learning about recount writing. There are many different types of recount writing. It can be a letter, a newspaper article, a diary entry or even a biography.
We used our imaginations to write diary entries as Viking children. We had to think about what Viking children did during the day, what activities they liked and how they might have been feeling.
When we are writing a recount there are lots of things we must remember. We like to use a checklist to keep us right. Here are some questions we might ask ourselves.
Here are some examples of the excellent diary entries we were writing!
In numeracy we have been doing lots of measuring, we have enjoyed using trundle wheels, measuring tapes and rulers to investigate the lengths of all sorts of things in our classroom and around the school.
One of the highlights of p6 so far was getting our coats on and heading out to the playground to draw some Viking swords using chalk. We used trundle wheels and measuring tapes to measure how long they were in metres and centimetres.
We like investigating and solving a ‘Problem of the Week’. One of our favourites was drawing and measuring a Viking long ship. We drew a long ship and used a ruler to measure each of the different parts in centimetres.
