Literacy 

This term we have been learning all about Outer Space in our ‘Out of This World!’ topic. We have been able to link this topic into our Literacy, Numeracy and ICT tasks.

In Literacy we have learnt about the features of a newspaper and are having a go at writing our own report about an alleged ‘Alien’ sighting in Africa. Do you really think it could have been an alien UFO that was spotted above a primary school?

We have really enjoyed reading our class novel, ‘Cakes in Space.’ We used our imaginations and joined Astra on her journey through space to get to the planet, ‘Nova Mundi’. We have been on the edge of our seats hoping that Astra can defeat the cakey fiends that she finds aboard her ship! Have a look at some of our ‘Cakes in Space’ work.  

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have been focusing on using different mathematical language to help us solve problems. We found lines of symmetry on regular and irregular 2D shapes and used a mirror to help us reflect shapes and patterns along a line of symmetry. We understand the place value of tenths and can use this knowledge to find equivalents, round and compare decimals and estimate and compare mass using decimals. We enjoy completing a ‘Problem of the Week’. We loved creating a coordinates challenge for our peers. Have a look below at some photos of the great numeracy work we have got up to so far in P6.
